ReviewsThe Independent - LUCAN was a brilliantly acted, cleverly scripted and beautifully shot drama.
Additional InformationThis two-part drama tells the incredible true-life story of flamboyant aristocrat, Lord Lucan and the murder case from which he infamously fled in 1974. Based on the book, THE GAMBLERS by John Pearson, the dramatisation follows Lucan (Rory Kinnear, SKYFALL) as his marriage to Veronica (Catherine McCormack), the Countess of Lucan, disintegrates - later igniting a bitter custody war over their three children. The violent murder of the Lucan's nanny Sandra Rivett, and the aristocrat's subsequent disappearance have intrigued the public ever since. For his book, Pearson (played here by Paul Freeman) extensively interviewed fellow gamblers at the Clermont Club - Lucan's second home, and pieced together the tragic details of the one of modern British history's most enduring mysteries.

  • Strange casting, could be better

The endless fascination of this tragic, but intriguing, case guarantees an audience, but having read the book 'The Gamblers' and several others, including a book completed by Lady Lucan before her death quite recently, this DVD could have been much better made. I thought the casting of Mr. Kinnear was quite wrong (and his too long hair was very irritating and incorrect) - one thing Lucan did possess was great presence and this did not come across in this portrayal at all and rather made a nonsense of the whole enterprise. I would recommend reading some of the very good books on the subject, including the one by Ranson, the detective on the case, rather than watching this rather poor film.

  • Great acting

I hadn’t seen this when it was first on TV. Brilliant acting, very atmospheric, I’ve been reading up about the history and people involved since watching this. Fascinating.
