  • Great lens if not shoot wide open

My review refers to the 8mm f3.5 MFT version which gives a 139.3° viewing angle on MFT. This makes it possible to get a wide "stereographic" view without too much fish-eye distortion if leveled, especially when corrected in post. The only issue is the softness wide open, usable in a pinch, but, it's just too hazy looking for my taste. But, stop down at F5.6 and everything clears up and it gets real nice at F8.0. So, it's certainly not a low light lens if you can't use it above F5.6. Update: Sold this lens for the Laowa 7.5mm f2.0 which is very sharp wide open, easier to focus peak because is much sharper. It's also smaller and has no protruding front element allowing for filter usage. It's twice the price, but, much better lens designed for smaller sensor.

  • Most bang for the buck.

The Samyang (also Bower and Rokinon) 7.5mm f3.5 fisheye lens has great depth of field and produces a very sharp, detailed image. Angle of view is 180 degrees on the diagonal. The lens is very light weight, compact and great for travel. Its diminutive size makes for a very small focusing ring which is sluggish to turn. It has no filter threads, but at this wide angle a CPL filter would have limited effect in only a portion of the frame. Size, weight, performance and price make this lens an exceptional value. edcburas2010

  • Small yet powerful

Lots of funny pictures can be shoot with this lens. If you plan to visit some buildings with nice and spectacular interiors, then you will be able to fit the good half of the room if not more :) Manual focusing is not a big issue as you will basically be always shooting at infinity focus mark. I've used as my second lens during my vacation trip to Saint-Petersburg in Russia and more than a half of my good images were made with this lens.

  • A niche lens that can be a lot of fun...

The Samyang 7.5 Fisheye is of course a niche product, with (intended) barrel distortion and exaggerated perspective that can be weird, but used tactfully and with awareness of what the lens can and can't do, you can get some interesting perspectives.... The lens itself is built well, a lot of plastic but doesn't feel too cheap. It is a light lens though it feels solid when mounted on a M43 body. Recommended!
