During the last year I have been dealing with a loved one dying of ALS. The progression of this disease affected all of us, especially in the crippling affect it had on the person. He would watch me out the window going to the shop to get the tools that we used to work on every week. It was very hard. So was it for me -- to do the jobs that we used to do together. We finally approached the end of the line. Three limbs no longer worked and he was heading for an oxygen tube, as the lungs were next to go. We opted for a "Doctor assisted end of life" just passed in this State last year. (Overwhelmingly I might add) I came early to talk and help get him ready. I told him that I wanted to play some music in the background. His reply, "NO MOZART." Not even Bach? Reply "NO BACH!" At that point I was about to suggest Moussorgsky: Night on Bald Mountain, or Sorcerer's Apprentice. We had that kind of relationship! One that I will never find again. Instead I was kind and brought him Enya and some Andean flute music. I TOLD him it was for the rest of us as much as for him. "OKAY." So the final voice he heard was Enya 'Memory of Trees' and the final tract was about 'Going on Home.' It was a most appropriate choice, as both of us are plants people and he was a landscape architect. We have contributed hundreds of trees to re-plant around our community and on their daughters Logged off property we re-forested it with Giant Sequoia. My idea, but his funding.) In twenty years there will be one hellacious Sequoia forest because of this exceptional person. Enya and this album was the perfect ending voice, and I will always have it resonate in my blood -- until my own time has come. Thank you ENYA!Read full review
Some of Enya's CDs are exceptionally beautiful. The Memory of Trees is IMHO not one of her better ones. There is an instrumental beginning, then a repetitive (to me simplistically jarring) tune; most of the other songs don't maintain my attention like some of her other CDs. I find myself losing interest as this one plays. This is not to say that it isn't a peaceful, harmonious CD, which you may really like, but I believe she has better CDs.

I bought this as a donation to my local Head Start to play during nap time. They LOVE it!

This CD is really soothing. I used this CD with the birth of two of my children. I don't use pain medication, I birth all natural and this CD helped me achieve the peace in my mind to get me through the pain of the last couple of contractions. The nurses even commented how soothing it was and liked entering my room at various times to check me and listen to calming notes. Love this music!
I just purchased Memory of Trees and couldn't stop listening to it. I fell asleep with my headphones on.I have heard many of her singles and loved them so much that I decided to start buying all of her work a CD at a time. They are so moving that you tend to move with them and getlost in the quiet, lilting, and unique tones. Every single song creates a story in your being. It is absolutely fascinating. Where did she come from? Not this planet...she is beyond the beyond!
