Hopefully anywhere you want it to sit in your home entertainment system! This amp, although rated at "110" watts per channel, really is one of the last great systems of a dying audiofile breed. While newer systems are rated higher, note that the RX-V1 spec is still at .015% THD. Since 2003 or so, the many "flagship-system" manufacturer rating standards have diluted how important it is to have more pure sound over sheer power. If your TV has all the HDMI you need, and if you are firmly entrenched in 5.1 or 6.1 media, and if you have patience to listen and configure the sound field parameters; then the 60 lbs of the massive chassis, the 8.25 inch tall will fade as it delivers a tremendous audio presentation. I rarely go to the theaters and prefer to watch at home. I have the 6.1 fully configured including the additional front effect speakers, technically it's 8.1. However, I tend to listen to only the original 5.1 or 6.1 signals passed from the video source (DVD, Blue Ray, or broadcast) with no additional processing. It's more of a true presesentation as intended by the original producers. Upon occaision, the additional 8.1 enhanced surround can be fun for action films; the RX-V1 does a great job of filling in for helicopters that fly in from the rear by using the rear center channel, and glass breaking is always more fun when trailing tinkling trickles down from the front upper effect speakers. Do you get goosebumps at the mere suggestion of the THX intro at the head of many DVD and Blue Ray? Do you need a system that pushes a clean thunder punch to your sub-woofer for lightning strikes? Then the RX-V1 will deliver.Read full review
The Yamaha RX-V1 receiver is a clean-sounding, packed-with-features unit. For DSP surround, Yamaha is one of only two manufacturers I consider worthwhile (Lexicon being the other). This is the last Yamaha receiver to feature text-display parameter settings. The model which replaced it to the current RX-Z9 requires on-screen viewing to set parameter settings, which are so important in DSP usage, whether music or movie viewing. When listening to music, I don't want to even bother turning on the tv monitor to fool with adjustments. This unit received excellent reviews from "Home Theater" "Audio Magazine" and "Sound and Vision." Being a flagship receiver, it has plenty of power, good dampening factor, and will blow you away with the sound quality of it's DSP and "Cinema DSP" features! The fact that everything (including built-in amplifiers) is included for a cost less than a stand-alone Lexicon is even more amazing! The successor RX-Z1 featured 135 watts per channel versus 125 for the V1 (hardly notable) plus DSP effects with headphone listing. The current production RX-Z9 has 9.1 surround, 170 watts per channel and I don't feel the features warrant the $5000 cost. The RX-V1 has about everything one would want. I recommend anyone looking for a unit like this try to find one with the original shipping box, remote control and instructions. Why all original packing stuff? It is been my experience that anyone who offers all that is (1) the original owner and (2) has taken excellent care of the unit! This unit is available both in the standard black and also a gold edition. For a collector's item, go for the gold! If you want sold performance, great value and many hours' worth of "tinkering" around with DSP possibilities, you will love the Yamaha RX-V1, especially with the "front effect" speaker set-up, whether the unit is black or gold!Read full review
Hi The RX-V1 is really one a new classic of this time where is more hard to find receivers with the power & fidelity from the golden era of HiFi, is incredible when you find in the users manual that only have 110 watts per channel RMS at 8 Ohms, but when you compare with the RX-V2400 (120 WPC) RX-V2500 (130WPC) RX-V2600 (130 WPC) you can find that only is a reference number, with this receiver your walls will literally rumble, it have a bass extension switch that is like the loudness in the old receivers, this model until dont have YPAO setup mic have a crystal clear highs & a deep & sweet bass, the worst of this receiver is only the absence of HDMI inputs but it can be easy fixed using your HDMI TV receiver as your main input center & send the audio through the optical output of your TV (it require some setup skills but witch current audio component don't needed)Read full review
I JUST RECIEVED THE RECIEVER A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO AND I HAVE TO SAY I'M BLOWN AWAY TO SAY THE LEAST. FIRST OF ALL, THIS THING IS HEAVY. NOT THAT WEIGHT IS THE STANDARD THAT HOME AUDIO IS MEASURED BY BUT IT FORTOLD ME A LITTLE OF WHAT I WAS IN FOR. AFTER SETTING UP AND PUTTING IN MY FIRST CD, I BEGUN TO HEAR LITTLE DETAILS IN THE MUSIC THAT I'D ONLY HEARD THROUGH STUDIO MONITORS OR HIGH QUALITY HEAD PHONES. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOW CLEAN THE YAMAHA RX-V1 SOUNDS. NOT TO MENTION THE POWER. I DIDN'T FIND IT TO BE LOUD RATHER THEN, DYNAMIC. SOMTHING ELSE THAT I'VE FOUND IN THIS RECIEVER. I FOUND IT REALATIVELY EASY TO USE AS WELL, THERE ARE ALOT OF OPTIONS WITH THE RX-V1 AS WELL. ANOTHER THING I LIKE ABOUT IT IS THEY DIDN'T PUT ALOT OF THINGS IN IT THAT WERE UNNESSARY. THE LOOK ON THE FACE OF THIS THING IS SIMPLE. POWER BUTTON, INPUT SELECTOR AND VOLUME. EVERYTHING ELSE IS TUCKED AWAY AND OUTTA SIGHT. THIS IS EVERYTHING I PERSONALLY WOULD EVER NEED A RECIEVER TO DO AND IT DOES IT MORE THEN WELL FOR ME. A VERY ATTRACTIVE, WELL BUILT RECIEVER AT A GREAT PRICE.Read full review
I HAVE OWNED THIS MODEL FOR 10 YEARS. THIS AMPLIFIER IS A JACK OF ALL TRADES AND DOES EVERYTHING AND ANTHING YOU NEED IT TO DO VERY WELL. THE SPECS ON THIS SYSTEM ARE INSANE! WATTAGE NUMBERS ARE CONSERVATIVE AT 110W, AND THE POWER IS CLEAN. NO HUMS OR HISSES, EVEN WHEN THE SOURCE MATERIAL IS A TURNTABLE. NOT TO MENTION THE BUILD QUALITY. THEY DON’T MAKE THEM LIKE THIS ANYMORE. THIS UNIT RETAILED FOR $3200.00, AT TODAYS COST IT WOULD BE EXTREAMLY EXPENSIVE. USE IT STRICTLY AS STEREO FOR CD’S OR LP’S AND THIS WILL BLOW ANY “RETRO” RECIEVER OUT OF THE WATER. ALSO, I HAVE HAD NO PROBLES USING THE HOME THEATER PORTION OF THIS AMP WITH CABLE BROADCAST OR BLU-RAY DVD’S. I KNOW BECAUSE I ALSO HAVE A SANSUI 9090DB. THE RX-V1 IS GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY.
