I have not read the book, but I have listened to the audio version twice now, and will do it again soon. This is a fabulous book. With 4 main macho men and one macho woman, the hardest working and brilliant people in the world, and many others go on strike, and disappear from society, because the government has become toooooo big and runs everyone's life and all the businesses. The book is quite large, and some parts are very philosophical, but the gist is about everyday people and their loves and concerns. It may be an accurate description of what socialized government can do to a great society. GREAT BOOK!!

I read Atlas Shrugged in high school about 30 years ago, and I enjoyed it. With political correctness effecting everything we can do and say today, I thought I'd re-read this classic. In her book, Rand's characters struggle against an oppressive government in order to remain free as individuals. The story depicts how socialist values are directly opposed to individualism and exceptionalism. More true today than when it was written.

Gr8 book! I bought it as a gift for a friend who wanted to read mine. I won't spoil the book by saying any thing about it. You'll have to read it yourself. Ayn Rand is a gr8 author who grew up and wrote in a time of communistic turmoil and she nailed it on the head. She is one of my favorite authors along with George Orwell. ~JG~

With those 4 words, literary wonder Ayn Rand begins her masterpiece. In the quest for man's greatest achievement, the key players of the world demonstrate the power of the human mind, and the lengths at which the prime movers will go to complete their destiny. While one man is determined to stop the motor of the world, heroine Dagney Taggart struggles to keep the bloodline of the nation flowing and her closest friends from succumbing to the worldwide economic paralysis. Epic in scope, probably the most valuable book I'll ever own. It is worth reading once a year, and I find it to be better each time I pick it up. I highly recommend this book to any reader, of any age, who likes suspense, mystery, action, romance, or historical fiction. Economic professors to high school students can glean wisdom and affirmation from this priceless classic.Read full review
Bought the book as a gift. I read it over 20 years ago. A very good story about what happens to an economy when the really smart people stop working so society can recognize their value to every day life.
