This is a large silver-dollar size coin with satisfying heft and a beautiful ring that you have never heard if all you've handled is modern clad coinage. It is 72% pure silver, containing 20 grams of the precious metal, ie, almost 2/3 of a troy ounce. The portrait is of Morelos, who carried on the work of Mexico's independence from Spain after Hidalgo's demise. He features on many Mexican coins as the man with the scarf on his head. On the other side is the emblematic eagle killing a snake while perched on a cactus, the sign that the Aztecs were to settle where Mexico City now stands. These coins were some of the last of their kind intended for circulation. The price of silver soon made them more valuable as bullion than for their face value, which in the late 70s would have been roughly $4.50 US dollars. Thankfully many remain for collectors at a reasonable premium over melt value.Read full review

Bought for my husband, even being from Mexico, he had never seen this, for real, in his life. It was awesome to see his excited reaction!
