I wanted a small camera to replace my old Panasonic NV-gs 150 digital tape camera, my old Panasonic still works well but it is bulky and the tapes are hard to get and to transfer from tape to computer requires special equipment so this new camera records HD and mp4 files simultaneity on a removable memory micro SD cards of the new high capacity types.

Very average performance for name brand product.
Extremely light weight, no substance. Image & video quality is reasonable but controls are not easy to use. Hand held video zooming is difficult due to lightness of body. Easy card insertion but unusual format trying to read the files. Have viewed on Windows & Mac, files easier to open on Mac. This was a "refurbished" item at a reduced price but still 2 x the price of my basic old "no frills" cam & no better picture quality. Weird way of charging battery. Quality of video nowhere near my DSLR. Pluses are: The light weight makes it easy to carry, screen rotation is good & it's easy to remove the memory stick.Extremely light weight, no substance. I've not even used it yet, but because you wanted an answer so soon, I'll tell you what you want to hear. I suppose it's good... it IS far too light... I like some beef (quality materials) in my Sony cameras... but I guess it is tiny and it will do what you said it would. We can only hope. I have not used my camera yet, except for a few set-up things, so I have not edited and played back any footage. You were far to quick to ask me about it. Had you waited for my review for another few months, you would probably have gotten a much better and more positive response from me. But... I do trust Sony because I have an old Sony DSR-PDX10P professional Video camera, which is great., but old technology. If the CX405 is half as good as this has been, it should be okay. A great little cam for the price easy to use with lots of features
For the price its a great little cam good to take on a holiday folds up into a neat little package very light a good little cam for a child. Can't think of anything bad about this Sony cam I'm still finding my way around all the features.
