Most air bases this side of the Iron Curtain possess a gate guard - an old aircraft, usually positioned near the base entrance, in varying conditions of repair and often up a pole . The latter being an attempt to portray the aircraft in its normal flying attitude and often limited only by the imagination of the people responsible for the display. In the case of the B-47 and B-52 preserved at the Oklahoma City State Fair Grounda, or some of the aircraft preserved in Pakistan, some people are more imaginative than others.
