By any definition, the subversive Go the Fuck to Sleep--in which a desperate father cajoles his child to please, please, slip off into dreamland--is a real game changer; it lets frazzled parents vicariously enjoy chastising their stubborn offspring with well-placed profanity while never uttering a harsh word aloud., Anyone who has ever had a newborn, an infant, a baby, a toddler, a preschooler . . . oh, heck, anyone who has ever known a young child will understand the impetus behind Adam Mansbach's runaway bestseller and 'children's book for adults.', The bracing language may be earning it headlines, but its true appeal--and, I suspect, the reason it has caught on with the toddler-terrorised masses--lies in its unapologetic acknowledgment that early parenthood is a struggle, a state defined as often by frustration as delight. For the exhausted parent, nudged to the brink of sanity by lack of sleep, Go the Fuck to Sleep is more than a reason to snigger--it's a gesture of compassion., Adam Mansbach's Go the Fuck to Sleep is the most controversial picture book on the shelves. Exhausted by his own daughter Vivien's tedious two-hour bedtime routine, Adam penned a would-be bedtime book that speaks the mind of beleaguered parents everywhere and the difficulties of getting your child to 'Go the Fuck to Sleep.', Perfectly timed, lightly applied touches of profanity are funny. Super funny. It's especially the case when the profanity puts words to common feelings that we aren't really allowed to own up to. Well, in that spirit comes this perfect little picture-book parody.

Synopsis
The #1 New York Times bestseller--a gift book for parents that will have them laughing even as they cry. One of Reader's Digest' s "25 Funniest Books of All Time" "Nothing has driven home a certain truth about my generation, which is approaching the apex of its childbearing years, quite like this." -- New Yorker "A parenting zeitgeist" -- Washington Post "A hilarious take on that age-old problem: getting the beloved child to go to sleep." --National Public Radio "A new Bible for weary parents" -- New York Times "Resonates powerfully with almost everyone" -- Boston Globe Go the Fuck to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don't always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbach's verses perfectly capture the familiar--and unspoken--tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, they open up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations, and laugh at their absurdity. With illustrations by Ricardo Cortés, Go the Fuck to Sleep is beautiful, subversive, and pants-wittingly funny--a book for parents new, old, and expectant. You probably should not read it to your children., One of Reader's Digest' s "25 Funniest Books of All Time" "Nothing has driven home a certain truth about my generation, which is approaching the apex of its childbearing years, quite like this." -- New Yorker "A parenting zeitgeist" -- Washington Post "A hilarious take on that age-old problem: getting the beloved child to go to sleep." --National Public Radio "A new Bible for weary parents" -- New York Times "Resonates powerfully with almost everyone" -- Boston Globe Go the Fuck to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don't always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. A cute and relatable book....

This is a very amusing book I got it for my brother in-law. My nephews are not easy sleepers and I thought he would get a kick out of it. If you look this book up on YouTube you can find Samuel L. Jackson doing a read along of this book. My mother was not thrilled with it, I don't think she approved. However I was a horrible sleeper as a child so I thought at the very least she could relate.

  • So you think it's easy being a Mommy? Let Daddy put them to bed ...

This book really isn't meant to read to your child, but to be read by adults who can relate to the author's sense of humor on trying to get our young ones to go to bed. I can imagine a father having these thoughts as our little dear ones are in his care. (smile) This daddy knows it's no piece of cake, being a mommy. It is well written and great entertainment for any parent with a sense of humor. I did read it to my 83 yr old father and he didn't like it at all. You can tell the author is a father who has had to put a little one to bed. A perfect gift for that macho friend of yours who finds himself in fatherhood now. There is nothing I dislike about this book.

  • Give that Kid a Benedryl and let's get back to the Game!!!

I HIGHLY recommend this to people THINKING about getting pregnant. Read it TOGETHER -- BEFORE you stop the contraception. It's funny beyond words but the element of truth is the REAL eye opener!!!! Best of all, you don't even have to be a parent to pee your pants laughing at this book -- if you have a niece, nephew, a friend with kids - ANYone you have ever watched with the purple dinosaur, a blankie, or a glass of milk trying to coddle the little monster into closing their f--ing eyes and embracing the f--ing sandman you will DEFINITELY relate to this BUT you really don't even have to RELATE to it to laugh out loud at the mental images this book conjures up. A quarter of the way through it you'll be thinking a benedryl in a sippy cup of juice just does NOT seem ...

  • Great book

Love this book! Read it with my 8 years old son and took turns reading and he paused every time there was a bad word and I would say it for him and he thought it was the funniest thing ever!
