About this product

Product Information

Veteran online game developer Turbine Entertainment brings the classic tabletop fantasy game series to a subscription-based community in Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach. Set in the Eberron campaign created in 2004, the game launches with five playable races and the following nine classes: barbarian, bard, cleric, fighter, paladin, ranger, rogue, sorcerer, and wizard. As in most online role-playing games, players begin by customizing their character's name, gender, and basic appearance before entering a tutorial quest designed to familiarize them with the controls, interface, and style of play.

Unlike its genre contemporaries, such as World of WarCraft, Dungeons & Dragons Online does not feature large, persistent areas where thousands of players can freely roam and fight. The design focuses instead on instanced dungeons for small bands of adventurers, each accessed from a tavern or a small hub area. In true D&D fashion, a party will need to work together to disarm traps, solve puzzles, negotiate with characters, or fight a number of monsters. An off-screen Dungeon Master will describe new areas in detail, while combat takes an action-oriented approach. Players are free to jump, swim, climb, attack, block, and perform evasive tumbles in real time.

Potions, spells, and feats are accessed through icon-based toolbars, but magic users have a limited number of points to cast spells. To replenish lost health and spell points, party members must locate the one rest shrine located within each dungeon. Another distinguishing feature is how the game handles experience. Experience points are not earned by killing creatures, but rather for solving quests, allowing players some freedom in how they complete objectives. For its initial release, the game has a level cap of ten and carries a monthly fee of $14.95. The game also includes native support for voice communication via microphone, a first for the genre.

For a company that has a charge of 14.99 a month to play you would figure the game would be smooth. Lots of glitches and lagging issues. Things getting stuck, things falling in the structure. I.E. something instead of landing on the stairs falls through the stairs and is unable to be retieved.Things that shouldn't happen for a game that is so expensive to play.Very dark surroundings. Don't get me wrong I love the idea of a dark place but thier should be some kind of way to light it up to see as well. The colors are dull. The engine they are using for movement is nice the movement is fluid. If they could just catch the graphics up it would be awsome! The game has alot of potential if they would re-invest thier income I think you would have a winner here. I have played Ultima online in it's ...

  • Even good for OLD Guys

Here I am 62 years old looking for something to do with my free time. Well, that certainly is NOT a problem anymore. This is more fun than any game I've ever played online or on the computer. You get to meet people, create your own characters, equip them and grow them anyway you want. The path to level 16 is long and terribly contagious. Give it a try...It's really a kick. Look for me in the world of Thelanis in the Guild of Ba'al Verzi. My main toon's name is Solet. See you there!!!

  • Very good MMORPG with FREE expansions!!!!

I love this game for three reasons: 1. Awesome game play with realistic graphics and breathtaking dungeons!!! 2. When ever the servers go down for maintenance or troubleshooting it's only a matter of minutes before they are back up and running! 3. FREE EXPANSIONS!!! Yes, thats right, you never have to buy an expansion pack for new content, they download it to you for free VIA patch!!! You just have to play it to see what I mean. I've played others games like World of Warcraft and Ultima Online but this game takes the cake. WoW was constantly crashing for some reason or another and support was murder. DDO offers support I have yet to see surpassed! Bottom line, Best MMORPG on the market right now!

  • Lot's of Eye Candy!

Beautifully rendered and fun game play. If you want to experience in it's full glory, it's best to exceed the recommended system requirements. Continuous support and updated gameplay (modules) makes this a game that will continue to have a long life of gameplay! Even my non-game playing girlfriend enjoys it, so I bought an additional one so that she can play along with me on another computer.

  • Couldn't be closer to the real thing.

This game is the most realistic transfer of the classic pen and paper tabletop ever made. A true RPG with the enhanced abilities of the mic and team chatting IN game. Nothing like talking the talk, while walking the walk. Solo play is challenging at best. Stick to group play, and you won't regret this purchase.
