  • Bio of a man with remarkable access, insights and opportunities as a war reporter

    Frederick Palmer is one of those men with whom I wish I could have spent an evening. His life spanned an era from horse drawn wagons to sputnik and all the wars from the Greco-Turkish to WWII. He was a war correspondent, author, lecturer, confidant of generals, admirals and presidents, and had an uncanny ability to predict the next war, its combatants, and tactics. A bit tedious at first, the author warms to his subject and ultimately does a wonderful job telling his story through letters, unpublished manuscripts, and published articles. Along the way you learn a great deal about other famous war reporters, presidents like Hoover and Teddy Roosevelt, and military icons like Dewey, Funston and Pershing from the perspective of a man who was greatly respected by all of them primarily because ...
