This edition includes summaries of many of the major events in 2001, including the General Election, foot-and-mouth disease and covers social exclusion and the direction of scientific research and developing technologies - issues which are shaping British society. New this edition is a series of four short essays, which either deal with issues of topical importance or cover subjects that straddle more than one sector of social, cultural and economic life. The essays for the 2002 edition covers - the 2001 Census, design, sustainable development and e-commerce.
