Tillman makes great gloves!
These gloves are fairly thin and soft allowing an easy feel and grip of a TIG welding torch. This is a repeat purchase for me - not because they wear out, but because for best TIG results, your gloves should be fairly clean and oil free. I’ve tried other brands but find it’s not worth messing around with hoping what you buy fits. Tillman sizes are very consistent and once you determine the right size, you can bet on every pair fitting well! When they get too much oxides or oil on them, they become long lasting general use gloves instead of TIG gloves. 👍🏼These gloves are fairly thin and soft allowing an easy feel and grip of a TIG welding torch. These gloves worked as delivered and would have lasted some time even if I didn't do anything, but that would have required a higher level of tolerance to defects and attrition than I have. The defects this pair had are common on the leather glove market: seam failures and seams not on pattern, including a run-off between fingers in one glove that I had to fix before I could start using them. I have also made them a lot more comfortable by trimming excessive margins where seams deviated inward. The improvement from trimming was particularly noticeable at the fingertips. I note that I had to fix fewer defects and they were less egregious than in a similar pair of Caiman gloves I bought previously. The Tillman gloves only took 10 minutes to fix, while the Caiman pair required almost two ... These gloves worked as delivered and would have lasted some time even if I didn't do anything, but that would have required a higher level of tolerance to defects and attrition than I have. It only required a couple hours of break-in time, which I spent riding my bike while wearing these gloves. They are adequate for welding. I mostly do small-scale welds with bead width not exceeding 2mm; I can say that whenever I mess up a joint, it is not because of the gloves. They pass the pick-the-dime test; further in that direction, the limit of what I can do with them lies somewhere between picking an M5 washer (1.2 x10mm) -- without any problem -- and a total impossibility to pick an M4 washer (0.75 x 9mm) -- other than by pressing my finger into it until it sticks. I can pick a straight 1/16" rod (1.6mm) from the floor but not 0.040" (0.79mm). To be fair, I do not always succeed picking a 0.040" wire with my bare fingers, so the limits on dexterity imposed by these gloves are not very limiting.
