I got one of these for £250 and its a fantastic addition to my camera. Pictures are sharp, auto focus is quick though a little loud. All round great lens for wildlife and sport

I bought the lens to do some long-range photography; which it does. I was prepared to accept that it did not have autofocus and I need to make sure that the lens is stable on a tripod or better a monopod in order to get the sharp detailed images that I am getting.

For the money this is as good as it gets. Sure picture quality as not as good as a Nikon brand lens but your not paying thousands of pounds for it. Unless your a professional who can tell the difference and uses their camera for a living, amateurs like me will be very pleased with this lens. When pointed downwards the lens does drop but as long as you're aware of it just handle it accordingly. For a lens of this length it will need to be mounted on a tripod anyway so is rarely an issue. For wildlife photography the lens can get confused over what you want to focus on but I have found this to be the case with other lenses also on my D80. Manual focus is great. It's a lot lighter to adjust than the focusing ring but did not find it too light. Focus stays put when you lift off the ring to take the shot. Being light means I could quickly adjust to what I wanted to be the focus of the shot and F6.3 gives great depth of field, nicely blurring the background. I was weighing up the option of this lens or a shorter range but faster lens. In the end I chose this one, not only was it cheaper than a faster lens but for me the extra zoom range would be more useful and I found boosting the ISO to 800 compensated for less speed without any graining. Overall this is a great lens for the money and I'm very happy with the results.Read full review
