  • Outstanding In His Field!

Steve Morse is nothing short of an American icon and a true national treasure. His work with The Dixie Dregs is the stuff of legend and he continues to amaze with every project he plays on. It's not just his amazing chops, he always seems to know what to play and when to play it. Stellar sideman work with Kansas, Living Loud and many others just adds to his credo. His most recent stint with Deep Purple has breathed new life into a band that was all but dead and I'm not sure anyone else could have pulled this off as he did. Stressfest is his band's 96 release with Dave LaRue and Van Romaine and it's one of their best! This is killer rock and roll by one of the best bands on the planet and is not to be missed!

  • I can see where John Petrucci gets his influence

while some songs were better than others, a great cd overall... a lot of variety in styles... great guitar (Morse is one of John Petrucci's influences and it's very evident on this cd comparing to what he wrote for his solo cd), Dave LaRue plays a lot of his slap bass and as always is right on... great drumming as well. I'm impressed.

  • Gets better and better...

The first time I listened to this , I thought "that was pretty cool!" The second time, I thought "why didn't I notice that before?" The third time, I thought "how much have I missed?" The problem was that I wasn't giving full attention to this excellent work. I put it on and listened to it with headphones and really listened to it, not just hearing it in the background. This one really grew on me. I am very impressed with Steve's technique and the different tones he uses. He also uses many different styles, and whether it be hard rock, country sounds or funky numbers, it's all good! Van Romaine is also very solid on drums as is Dave LaRue on bass. Every song is a winner on this one and I can't really push one song above another because they are all good in their own way. If I did have to ...
