I bought this lens for my son, he has an Izumanon Extrawide 90 lens attachment that required this lens so it could actually be of use again (He once owned a Nikon with a similar lens but sold it to pay for another lens for his Canon). The rest of the review is simply just copied and pasted from an email of my son since I cannot really do it justice since I am not the one using the lens. "Overall, I think this a good lens. Since it's predominantly plastic, it has a cheap feel to it which I disliked, but didn't abhor in the slightest. Using the lens without my fish-eye attachment proved fine enough, nothing terrible about the images yet nothing spectacular. I have other lens that capture the range this lens does with better sharpness, but I still enjoy this lens as it is very small and compact and works on short notice. Comparing it to the Nikon, it still has the same plastic, and I'm afraid I can't recall photo quality differences, but I would assume they are about the same. For the price my father was able to get it for, I can't complain, it was a great price, and the lens has served me well, and if you somehow have a lens attachment that requires that thread-length, go for it!"Read full review
I had a Tamron 28-300 but found there was too much distortion in pictures taken with my Canon 5d. I also disliked the fact that if you took pictures pointing down the barrel would extend on its own. I also have a Canon L series 70-200, so I purchased this lens to cover the distance lost when I sold the Tamron. The Canon 28-80's price was a steal. It didn't have the best reviews, but when used on my 5d, pictures had less distortion the the Tamron though they appeared a bit soft. Photoshop easily corrects the soft appearance.
Over all not bad at all, very economical. I tried this lens and find the following; a) Light weight b) You can get it super cheap c) Image quality is good d) Good Value Now why 3 star; a) noisy b) not smooth as Canon (Or just my lens)

It is hard to get a sharp focus with this lens. There is a slight wobble as well. Bought a replacement lens with metal backing vs plastic, which is what this lens has. Live and learn.

It's a standard, off the shelf lens that does what it's designed to do and does it very well. It completes me lens selection from 18 mmm to 250 mm and complements the other two lenses I use very well. The 58 mm filter accepts the filters I use on the smaller lens. Overall, a good quality zoom lens from Canon.
Unfortunately only front lens cap included.
