About this product

Product Information

In November 1941 the Australian light cruiser HMAS Sydney, with a crew of 645, disappeared off the coast of Western Australia. When German sailors picked up from lifeboats claimed that their ship, the Kormoran, a lightly merchant raider, had sunk the pride of the Australian navy theories sprang up to explain the loss. Had a second German warship been involved, or a Japanese submarine, even though Japan was not yet in the war? Based on the German coded accounts and interviews with German survivors, this book pieces together what really happened in the desperate fight between the two ships, whose wrecks were finally located 10,000 feet down on the floor of the Indian Ocean in March 2008.

Fantastic seller! My item took longer than normal to arrive but that's due to them sending me the wrong dvd. Not to worry though, I contacted them and they arranged for the correct dvd to be sent out. My item has now arrived and the dvd was in excellent condition (brand new as described) and it was very well packaged. I would also like to say that the value for money is excellent. I highly recommend this seller, thank you so much! The issue with the wrong dvd was quickly rectified .

Book arrived safely packaged in perfect order. Item as described, new. Thank you Rarewaves Outlet. Fascinating book, great addition to my collection. Great price. Would recommended this seller. No communication needed with seller, so don't know what to rate with regards to communication (please dont take lack of feedback on this matter as a negative). Thanks again.

This vinyl is really reasonably priced and I love that it is one of the more unusual colours. It arrived well packaged, undamaged and looks as described. It arrived late, due to Royal Mail's Festive rush, but was dispatched by the seller really quickly. When I contacted them to ask where it was, they replied really quickly with a helpful solution. Such good customer service, so strongly recommend. Really happy with my purchase.

  • To any reader interested in how 'HMAS Sydney' was lost, this is the book.

The loss of Australia's newest warship 'HMAS Sydney' in a battle with the German raider 'Kormoran' off the coast of Western Australia in November 1941, although investigated by the Australian Navy soon after, largely remained a mystery amid much conjecture for many years. The finding of the wrecks of the two ships in 2008 helped solve some of the mystery. This book is an excellent and well written account of the actual events that unfolded that fateful afternoon. The author has spent considerable time in deciphering various documents including a code book of a battle report prepared by Captain Detmers of the 'Kormoran', previously overlooked by naval investigators. Other books about the loss of the Sydney have contained conjecture and half facts. This book contains only the truth of what ...
