Oftentimes, going to see an action flick, I'm completely aware of what I'm getting myself into. After a stressful day at the office, "Gamer" was going to be an opportunity to turn my brain off for 90 minutes and revel in some unabashed popcorn entertainment. Boy, was I wrong. "Gamer" is easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen, and certainly the worst DVD release so far of 2010. The film follows Tillman/Kable, a convicted "felon" on death row, in a hyper-connected Internet and video game society. I use the term felon in quotes because from the opening frames it's clear that Tillman is obviously innocent. Regardless, in a world where the "Sims"-like game "Society" has begun to replace actual civilization, violent offenders are given the opportunity to win their freedom by competing 30 times in a first-person shooter adventure where their lives are actually at stake. The "big ideas" that the film wants to examine are eclipsed by the fact the movie is just as violent and detached as the material it's "satirizing." In fact, I'd go out on a limb and say that playing two hours of "World of Warcraft" or "The Sims" is actually HEALTHIER than sitting down to watch the cinematic abortion that is "Gamer." Skip this one and play some real video games instead. Chances are good you'll feel better about yourself in the long run. Thanks for reading. Too Bad I can't rate it lower than 1 out of 5... The only way the movie would have worked is if they had spent more time making the audience sympathetic to Gerard Butler's Character/Family. In order to do that the movie would have been longer, but it would have been worth it, and Gerard would have had more dialogue. The production value of the filming was terrible, and jerky. Kyra Sedgwick's portrayal of a reporter was one of the few well played roles, but why did she have more makeup than Tammy Fae? I have seen much better from Gerard Butler, John Leguizamo, Ludacris, & many others who appear in this film, I blame the Writer's, not the Actor's! The violence/blood was to be expected from the ads, and I have seen gorier movies, Starship Troopers to name one, but Starship Troopers was 35 minutes longer than "Gamer", allowing for much more character development. The movie is rated R, but if you appreciate the scenes showing Women's Breasts you are probably a 12-16 Boy who should not be viewing it anyway. If this Movie is still something you want to see after reading this review, #1 enjoy the scenes with the obese player, #2 seek help. I'm going to consult a Professional Hypnotist to see if I can have the memory of Gamer suppressed, with the contingency that any desire to view it again is removed as well, I would hate to be paying the Hypnotist again in 6 months.Read full review
Gerard Butler (300) is Kable, a convicted felon who is part of the hottest virtual reality game on the planet created by Ken Castle (played by Michael C. Hall of Dexter Fame). Kable is just a couple of games away from earning his freedom and release back into society after winning more games than any other player in game history. Only problem is the powers that be do not want him to get out and reveal their secret. (Sounds a lot like Running Man doesn't it?). The movie has a lot of very good game type special effects, lots and lots of blood and gore and has a very good story as well. Additional Cast Members Include: Amber Valletta, Logan Lerman, Terry Crews, Ludacris and Kyra Sedgwick Its a pretty good movie and anyone who plays games will love it.
The movie was very action packed. I enjoyed watching this move, much like the original movie of the Matrix or the Sentinal. The plot is pretty good but it is the lead actor that brings it home. I would recommend this movie to be one of the ones on the shelf for those rainy days when you just want to escape. Thanks
Not the worst movie I've ever seen. It does sort of rip off other movies that I won't mention, and I few only I noticed. This movie has lots n lots of gore and action. The problem is that when the action stops, it gets a little boring, and I'm not just saying that. The dialogue in this move is below par, but I did enjoy Micheal C Hall's monologues. (Great actor, great villian). If you're into violent video games, than I'm sure the movie will appeal to you.

Although I'm a big Gerard Butler fan, I found this movie to be extremely violent and gross and pointlessly so. The story seemed like just a rack to hang all the disturbing scenes on. I didn't care much about any of the characters and I don't think it painted an interesting picture of the future as in Blade Runners. I was looking forward to the film ending. Not a good sign.
