Product Information

Arthur Avenue winds its way through the heart of theBronx. Known to many as the "real Little Italy," the storiedArthur Avenue neighborhood has been home to a vibrantcommunity of Italian-Americans for over a hundred years.Today, this area continues to thrive as visitors and residents stopto buy a fresh, crusty loaf of bread; to enjoy a meal at Mario'sRestaurant; to dawdle for a while at Randazzo's raw bar on a warmsummer afternoon; or to hear Mike's Deli owner Michele Grecobelt out an aria from Rigoletto and spellbind his customers withtales of the Avenue's past. Now, for the first time, the residents of Arthur Avenue inviteyou to experience the magic of their kitchens and share theflavors of their family tables. Passed down through generations, their delicious recipes are time-tested, tried, and true -- and readyfor any kitchen. They include: - Sicilian Baked Ziti - Yankee Stadium Big Boy (The Grecofamily's famous grinder that was rated one of the best in the cityby the New York Times ) - Osso Buco - Olive Ciabatta - Italian RicottaCheesecake - Cannoli - and more The Arthur Avenue Cookbook also invites you to savor the memoriesof the neighborhood's most colorful residents, restaurateurs, andshop owners, and those of their families -- many of whom havelived in the neighborhood since it first came into being. MeetMario Borgatti, the noodle maker who has been there for morethan eighty-five years. Anthony Artuso, Sr., takes his bakerybusiness so seriously that he went seventeen years without avacation -- in part, to ensure that each bride and groom got theperfect wedding cake. • True Italian Food Heritage

"The Arthur Avenue Cookbook" is so beautifully done, it is hard to put down. It is so much more than a cookbook. It is a history of Italian food in America. It has beautiful pictures of Italian products and the stories of the people who have for generations sold these hand made foods. It captures the essence of how Italians feel about their food and how certain items have been made the same way for generations, such as fresh mozzarella, beautiful pastries, home-made pastas and more. Family histories of the store keepers is given as well as recipes to some of the most loved dishes. We get a behind the scenes look as food is prepared and served through stunning pictures. The names and numbers to all the establishments is listed as well as an easy to read map. Get ready to take the book ...

  • AUTHENTIC Italian cooking

I love this cookbook because it includes some of the recipes that my own family has enjoyed for generations but no one ever wrote anything down so the outcome was never consistent...until now! Now I can recreate some of these wonderful recipes, surprising my mother and father with dishes that they haven't had in many years and expanding my children's taste for Italian food other than pizza and macaroni and meatballs!. Having been to many of the establishments mentioned in the book, it's fun to read about them. I highly recommend this book!

  • Authur Avenue Cookbook

The Authur Avenue Cookbook has got to be one of the greatest cookbooks out there for New York Italian cuisine. There are many great recipes from one of the most famous areas of New York. If you are into finding some of the best Italian recipes then I highly recommend this cookbook. I was glad to have been watching The Food Network one evening when they were showcasing the Authur Avenue area and they made mention of the cookbook. After viewing the show I immediately went on eBay and began to search for this cookbook. I knew this was a must have and am glad to have been able to find it. BMRBILL

I first saw an episode about Arthur Avenue on Food Network. Then I saw that there was a book with recipes that was published about it. It's a fantastic book with great recipes handed down from generations. Tons of pictures with map of Arthur Avenue. Definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes to cook.
