This NHL game like so many has its good and bad qualities. However, the good out weighs the bad in this instance. NHL 94' is arguably the best and easiest to use of the NHL games by EA. What make 2002 unique is they capture the game play and graphics of NHL 94', but with updated rosters and teams. (Its Nov. 2020 so a few teams even now don't exist, i.e. Atlanta.) This makes this a truly unique game. If you've played NHL 94 then you know the controls are simple, the game play quick and straight forward, exactly what a Game Boy hockey game needs. Would recommend this game to anyone, new or experienced for a fun twist on a NHL classic.

Overall it's a pretty good game. After you play for a couple hours you figure out how to exploit the poor goalie AI, just like the old SNES/Genesis games. It has most of the necessary features you expect from a handheld hockey game but, it could use a couple more options in regards to the rules, penalties are far too numerous (especially goalie interference) and the power plays are totally ineffective, whether your on one or killing one. There is only like 2 on-ice sound effects and they're terrible, just terrible. Don't let these complaints stop you from getting the game if you were a fan of the old NHL games though, it's still fun.
Nice game, like on photos was.
