    Non-simplified kanji used

    I'm interested in learning modern Japanese, but this book still uses non-simplified kanji. There's a gloss at the back that shows both versions of the affected kanji, but that was too little, too late. I really like the book, though. You will be able to read Japanese kanji at the end of it, but it might take you 2 or 3 read throughs. I'm on my second now.

    Read Japanese Today

    I have always been fascinated with the Japanese language since going to Okinawa as an exchange student in 1993. I thought the characters would be impossible to learn or recgonize. However, this book clarifies, and really simplifies the characters in a way that is totally understandable. The original pictographs of the characters are shown, which helps you to easier visualize the current character after its evolution through time.

    Overcome your fears of Japanese language

    This won't make you a native speaker, but it will take the mystery out of Nihongo with its two alphabets and Chinese characters. I replaced the lost one I had "loaned" and purchased one for a friend. Very fun reading.
