A Must for the Scrabble Enthusiast

This CD is perfect for "old school" Scrabble players. It replaced one that I had for over 30 years that finally decided not to work any longer. Great for those that don't want to play on-line. Five levels of play, plus up to three opponents makes for an easy to challenging play experience.

  • Excellent adaptation, but beware the technical gotchas

Hasbro Scrabble features an extremely capable, configurable and very fun (!) automated opponent named Maven, that really makes the game worthwhile. But this version from 1996 won't play on NT-based Windows operating systems (it's made for Windows 3.1 or 95), so running it outside of an emulated environment will be extremely difficult. Getting the graphics to display correctly—even within a virtual machine—will require even more effort, since many virtualizers no longer include the infrastructure needed to run the game well (i.e. guest additions for those operating systems). With effort and configuration (or an exisiting Windows 95 or 98 virtual machine with properly configured graphics) the game can be made to run quite well. I'd say it's a successful adaptation of the original board game.

  • Scrabble 1996

I bought this for my mother to replace an older version she had been playing for years. She had an older Mac and my brother up graded her to a slightly newer Mac. Her old version of the game was on a 3.5 floppy. Her new machine only takes CD's so I bought this because it was supposed to work work on Macs. It even says it will on the jewel case. Guess What? It does not run on her Mac. As far as running it on a PC, it's fine. Everything works like it is supposed to. The moral of the story: Don't believe PC games that claim to be able to run on Mac's.

  • Best Scrabble Disc

This is a great game, just wish you didn't have to use the disc each time you want to play. Not as good as Game House Scrabble, which I lost when my pc crashed. Now they don't offer scrabble anymore. I do play this game often though and it does have different skill levels!
