I'm not sure "depth" is a word that comes to mind when one thinks of the Painkiller games, but there's certainly a lot more to this hellacious shooter than first meets the eye. The story is generic, but it's really just there to get you to the one and only goal: kill a lot of stuff. Compared to the seminal OG Xbox shooters (Halo, Doom, Half-Life, etc.) Painkiller seems lacking at first, but I found myself cackling at the absurdity of the weapons, setting, and enemies more often than not. It's a straightforward shooter for straightforward players, so if you want a more thought provoking and introspective experience, look elsewhere. But if you're good to go with a game that unabashedly worships at the alter of "run and gun", you could do a lot worse than Painkiller.

Painkiller is a very simple game. You start at Point A and with the several very creative guns you're given you must kill all the demons that stand in your way to get to Point B. That's all you have to do. Kill everything. Don't worry about protecting the President's daughter, collecting three different keycards, or finding the lost treasure of Shambala. Just kill stuff. You get a lot of fun weapons in order to kill stuff like a gun that shoots large wooden stakes that can pin enemies to the wall or a gun that shoots shurikens and lightning. The issue is that the game isn't exactly fresh. It's stale, quite honestly. The graphics are crummy, programming seems off, and the story will make you fall asleep. But if you just want mindless first-person-shooter fun that you just don't see in gaming anymore then Painkiller is for you. If you like Doom, then you'll love this game.Read full review
Painkiller falls in the same catagory as say Doom,Half Life and a touch of Resident Evil as you have to survive. I read some reviews on this game before I got it and have reached one conclution, some people should have thier xbox license revoked for being stupid.Meaning this is a game a great one at that based on FICTION,not reality so to confuse this game with the real world is foolish. The game play and graphics are nice and only for entertainment value and not the real world. Some of us should know the difference.
Great game

No matter what you may think or hear about this game being "last Gen" or "not as good as Halo 2", I say who cares! This game is still a very challenging and graphically pleasant experience. I enjoyed this game for the most part, yes there are some levels that just plain sucked(First 3 levels) but it gets much better. The Bosses are just awesome in scale for the most part, not necessarily challenging or anything. If you play this game and really try to get all the Tarots and play it right, you wont be let down! Its a great price, a wonderfully visual game and especially great if you can't afford and Xbox 360.
