    Still worth the watch!

It's great to see all of my childhood Saturday TV heroes again! The films are bit primitive, but are still creatively produced and have excellent underlying themes; mostly the evils of "civilization" encroaching on an unsuspecting continent. The native and animal scenes are really a case of art capturing history, now long gone. Weissmuller is still a cinematic phenomenon, even without the modern day technology, not only "King of the Jungle," but King of Tarzans!

  • Do You Ungawa ???

So.... What exactly is 'Ungawa' ?? This word was Tarzan's favorite word in the six films that Johnny Weissmuller starred in. The word actually was a verb in most cases. To go, to do, go, go now, come here, do it, etc etc... While waiting for Season 3 of 'The West Wing' to come in, I rented 'The Tarzan Collection' for Tina and myself to view. She originally thought what the heck is he renting this for... but I explained I had only see a few scenes from the movies. Additionally we just picked up a Tarzan collection that was listed last week, so the Tarzan DVD set jumped out at me at rental store! THE TARZAN COLLECTION CONTAINS: TARZAN THE APE MAN - 1932 - I give this a 8.5 score. Sensual and violent for 1932, but this was a pre-code ...

  • Suerman of the Jungle

These movies which I first saw in the '50's, when they were already nearly 20 years old, are part of my history. We kids used to argue about which super-hero was the strongest, and Tarzan's name was always among them. Now that I am considerably older, and I realize that Tarzan had only human strength, as opposed to Krytonian strength on a planet with a yellow sun , I understand how silly those arguments had been. Of course I never thought Tarzan was stronger than Superman. But Collection 1 of the Tarzan movies is super to view once again, with antiquated special effects, made to look as real as possible. Tarzan's fighting a lion, a rhinocerous, an alligator, a hideous ape, make for wonderful footage. His incredible swimming, as displayed by olympic ...

  • What A Treasure!

With Disney getting involved and now rumors of a Tarzan musical I wanted to introduced my children to the "real man, behind the yell" - Johnny Weissmueller. It was so much fun introducing my 13, 14 & 18 year-old children to the Tarzan I grew up with when I was their age. The best part is being able to watch the relationship between Tarzan, Jane and their family grow - dealing with age old problems and managing to come through with strong family values. The quality of the DVDs are fabulous and the entire collection is a MUST HAVE! I'm ordering a second set for my 65 year old mother - who introduced me to Johnny and Maureen O'Sullivan over 25 years ago. Thank you so much for making this collection available at such a great price!

  • THE TARZAN COLLECTION starring Johnny Weismuller

For anyone who remembers Saturday afternoons long ago watching the death-defyi g brilliance of Olympic Champion Johnny Weismuller as TARZAN of THE APES, THIS volume is the DEFINITIVE collection. Starring alongside him is the only DEFINITIVE "Jane Parker" in the guise of Maureen O'Sullivan, equally youthful in 1932, and "Veddy Veddy British", yet quickly smitten by the handsome Ape Man and amused by his ever-loyal "Cheetah". Together they create a believable and wonderful "Paradise" in the treetops; occasionally Jane lets herself get talked into some foolish plan by visitors from Civilization, yet rapidly learns the error of her ways back in the forgiving arms of her King of The Jungle. The adventure is MGM all the way "Do it BIG, DO it ...
