Bernstein was a master teacher as well as conductor and composer. He was articulate and clear in explaining and demonstrating a wide range of musical terms and ideas. The concerts were geared for young audiences (children and teens) but are great fun for all ages. Most of these archive performances were recorded via kinescope, but the quality of the material well offsets the occasional infelicities of image. This set is truly a treasure.
It is absolutely wonderful !
The packaging is not as good,
or as sturdy as Volume 1.
Very poorly constructed.
Kultur is at fault for
being too cheap.
I wish the concert devoted
to “The Second Hurricane”
was included.
Otherwise, I love the programs, and
am really glad that they were restored.
You can tell they often show their age.
However, the programs are timeless,
and Leonard Bernstein seems at his
happiest, teaching !
