  • Very versatile, professional PTZ camera.

PTZ makes several versions of this camera with different colors (white or gray) different zoom ranges and different output combinations. All work very well. Of particular interest to this application was the extended dynamic range that allows appropriate luminance values on a subject when there is light behind the subject that would otherwise be too bright. This is probably the most affordable camera with that ability. The CVBS videa (AKA analog NTSC) is only available when turned on and may be exclusive of other outputs. I didn't manage to get it to work in a few minutes of playing. It would be useful for us for PTZ, because of minimal delay. HDMI and SDI are probably also low delay, but if they have to be captured by a USB capture card, that adds delay. NDI (which this model didn't have) would probably be a better choice. Any camera can be upgraded (software) to NDI, but the upgrade is more expensive than buying a version with NDI. There is also a version with USB output. We opted not to get that, because of cable length limitations. All versions have RTSP (Ethernet), but it has quite a bit of delay.. I believe all version have HDMI and SDI. HDMI is the most compatible, particularly with consumer grade equipment, but runs longer than 25 feet require special cabling. SDI uses coax cabling and can run a few hundred feet. It is the industry standard for professional video production and will be available on mid to higher end switchers, etc. One reason latency is a big deal with a PTZ camera is feedback. The operator needs to know when to stop a zoom or pan, and if the video they are watching is too delayed, they will overshoot. To avoid that, the operator will try to stop early, but if they don't guess quite right, a second movement is required, which looks jerky if it is "on air". Our setting is a church. The zoom can go from showing the whole platform/state, to a very tight face shot of one person--quite impressive. We will locate this on the (low) ceiling about 25 from the stage as our only camera, at least for a while. The PTZ can be controlled by RS-232, RS-422, Ethernet, or included infrared remote. The remote is awkward in that it has to have a good "view" of the camera base, but it works fairly well, other than starting and stopping abruptly. The camera can have the rate set, and there are two pairs of zoom buttons (fast and slow) although not two sets of tils and pan. I have had poor luck with Ethernet PTZ control of any camera I have tried, including this one. The message doesn't always get there, it is hard to get the timing right, and if the stop message doesn't get there, . . . The company provides a couple of programs for PTZ. One is no more than some HTML, and it looks ugly and works poorly--but it is open source and can be easily edited. The other is an exe file. However, it is rather picky about the computer. It refused to install or run on XP. It also refused to run on one W10 computer, although it worked fine on my W10 Pro computer. Probably the best PTZ control (although I haven't tried it) is RS-232 or RS-485, which allows joystick control. Also there are about ten presets that would allow frequently used PTZ settings to be remembered and called up with a single button push (with any of the connection methods). Overall I'm quite happy with the camera

  • A good quality PTZ camera

This is a good quality camera and compared to some of the less expensive brands I have used has a better image quality and is easier to work with regarding the PTZ operations. It would be nice if the price point was closer in alignment with the lower cost cameras however even at this price I feel it is worth it.
