Jungian analyst Robert Moore and mythologist Douglas Gillette combine in this book that attempts to break the code on the structure of the mature masculine personality. Examining the four mature archtypes: the King (energy of creative ordering), the Warrior (energy of non-violent aggressive action), the Magician (energy of initiation and transformation) and the Lover (energy to connect men to others and the world). The authors argue that a man's failure or success in life depends on achieving access to the archetypal energies.

  • Nice sized book with great content

One strong aspect about the content is giving clear examples of negative aspects of masculine behaviour. It gives strong examples about positive also, but understanding the way the negative ones work helps readers be more equipped to steer clear of it. Understanding how to better integrate a well rounded set of principles to live by while knowing how they can turn into vices is an incredibly valuable tool. It's not a very large book and the chapters aren't too long which makes it an easier read than some of my other stuff. Its a great read. It does have some comments about the patriarchy which I'm very skeptical about but most of the social commentary is fairly solid.
