    A simply beautiful film. Grade A acting telling a timeless story of conflicting emotions between the yearning for life's artistry and the compelling force of selfish love that can destroy an artist.

    The Forgotten Classic, Now Restored

    This is the movie Martin Scorsese rave about, the one whose restoration from a badly deteriorated condition he oversaw until the result is this amazing quality restoration we have today -- and then this is the Blu-Ray of that film, no less. Even if you're not a fan of the ballet, this film is done so well that it's primarily about the characters and a central issue in life, as to whether our work or life passions are more important. If you choose one, can you have the other, too? Or are dreams and a life mutually exclusive? At any rate, this is a great movie, and sadly too long forgotten.

    The Red Shoes

    Given this movie was made in 1948 the restoration is to put it mildly, outstanding. This made it even more enjoyable with all the colors so rich; the acting and the ballet scenes were first-class. The Criterion people did an excellent job in restoring this movie!
