This little fellow has personal associations for me, having made a kit-built version in the same livery many years ago, which I later sold. I bought this one pretty much on impulse on account of the memories it kindled!
The model is a nicely made, very accurate one; robustly built and nicely finished. The livery, particularly the nameplates and lining is well executed and sharply printed. One 'discrepancy' is in the coal bunker - the model has the small bunker and toolbox found on all mainland engines; Isle of Wight Terriers were fitted with an extended bunker. Obviously Hornby can't be expected to retool the mould to comply and rather than spoil a very nice paint job, I'm happy to leave it as it is.
Having previously been used it needed to have the wheels cleaned to improve running;once that done it performs well on my layout and revives happy memories for me, both of the old model and holidays on the Isle of Wight which in turn inspired a former layout. A good buy, at a very good price.
for a used model it is in very good condition been well looked after . . runs very smoothly and reasonably quiet , body work in good condition . it is well modelled and looks good . would recomend this type of model for small layouts , specially shunting yard layouts I intends to had another one to my stock when I can find one .
