You just kind of lift up and out the slightest bit on latch to open it. Not sure how long the latch will last. The packaging was heavily taped closed at one end so don't know if opened or glue came undone and they taped it closed. It is new. Disappointed in it but was cheaper than green ones. The original store package shipping label says Kmart on it. Shipped in sturdy box. As described.
