Head size is more traditional, slightly smaller than many oversize game improvement irons. The 3 - 6 irons are a CNC machined cavity back, while the 7 - PW are musclebacks. While pretty forgiving, these are definitely clubs for the more accomplished player who hits the ball in the center of the clubface consistently. I wouldn't recommend them for those over a 10 - 12 GHIN index max. That said they are asthetically BEAUTIFUL $800 irons that can be had for $250 - $300 due to MacGregors corporate problems. I have the DG 300S shafts in them. The trajectory with these is medium and I tend to be a high ball hitter, which is good for me as I tend to get ballooned shots at times with less tip stiff shafts. The feel is very firm - not the more mushy impact I had with more tip flexible Cleveland TA7's with the TT release stiff shafts I'd been playing for the past couple of seasons. I would have preferred the Nippon 1150 GH shafts as a happy medium, but this is really nitpicking. Dispersion is (subjectively) very small - these are accurate sticks both in distance and direction. Much less distance variance than with tip flexible shafts. The lofts are a little weaker than many game improvement clubs, so distances may be half-club less or so, but this is actually good as the gaps in the short irons are better aligned with a 52* gap wedge as a result. I found the clubs easy to draw or hit straight, but more difficult to fade. For reference, I have a "quick" swing tempo, driver SS 100 - 102, driver carry 245 - 250, 7 iron carry 150 - 155, GHIN index 9.5Read full review
I purchased a set of MT PRO C irons with the nippon tour flex stiff shaft with the chrome finish.I could not be happier.Absolutley beautiful set, distance is perhaps a little longer than the muzinos i currently use, with the stiff shaft my fade to thr right is gone these clubs are unbelieveably easy to hit.I have reduced my handicap by 5 strokes because of these. As with any good players club you will be penalized for off center hits but there is a good deal of forgivness in these irons. As far as value is concerned i payed 160.00 dollars for my set on E BAY and i promise you as soon as i find another set like mine i will buy them.I recommend these to anyone who wants to take their game to a new level. As i said before easy to hit very soft buttery feel when struck right absolute best irons i have ever hit.Read full review
I got the combo MC set back in Jan '10, and it was torture looking at these beauties while the snow fell outside. Now it is June, and I have played about 15 rounds with them. It took me 2 or 3 rounds to get used to them. I transitioned from the Mac VIP muscle backs, and the MT Pros are lighter and smaller. After a few clanky rounds though, they are far and away the sweetest feeling most consistent irons I have ever played. I agree with the notion that players clubs force you to improve your swing and quality of contact (which really makes them game improvement clubs). Anyway, I can't say enough about these clubs. They are the best kept secret out there, and I'm getting another back-up set before they become really hard to find.
I bought this set for my son. We were looking for a set of irons with more of a "blade" style. These clubs are high quality with top of the line shafts and grips. They are not game improvement irons...you need to hit them square. They are designed with the "better" golfer in mind...not someone needing a forgiving club. For the price they are being offered for, they are a bargain! If you are looking for a forged club with a slight cavity back, standard length and lie angle...these are the irons for you.
I came across a MacGregor MacTec driver and 3 wood and decided the price was right. I had a similar driver years ago and wanted to get the feel back...now with both these clubs I have what I want. Smaller heads that I feel I can control better, with no loss of distance. Great clubs!
