If you’re going to pay for a good compass, it’s got to have adjustable declination. It’s the main difference between a cheap compass and a pro compass. There are two norths, true north and magnetic north. Compasses point towards magnetic north. Maps use true north. Magnetic north moves around, declination is your adjustment between true north and magnetic north. Every location has a different declination. You can check your map or online for current declination adjustment. Fixed declination just means you always have to do addition math to figure true north. Adjustable means you set your declination and now the compass is on, correct to your map. Good luck out there.
