Both movies involve a supposed rogue CIA agent who involves his future In-Law in a scheme to entrap a foreign entity. The rogue agent who claims he is on a deep undercover mission and his unwitting and mostly unwilling partner are drawn into many comical mishaps and wild adventures, ending in a not surprising, but still entertaining ending. I saw the original with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin several years ago. A couple years ago I saw the remake. I remember enjoying both movies, but somehow remembered the original as the funnier version. This proved not to be true in my opinion after receiving the DVD in the mail. The remake had more laughs and a more believable storyline. I still enjoyed watching the original, especially the part where Alan Arkin's character was being shot at and Peter Falk's character shouting "Serpentine, serpentine!" convincing the already safe Arkin to return to being shot at and zig-zaging back to safety rather than the straight run that he had previously successfully completed. If you are not able to get a double feature dvd with both versions, I would definitely buy the later version with Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks.Read full review
The DVD is an entertaining double package. The original version showcases the delightful wackiness of Peter Falk, and the more subtle genius of Alan Arkin. The dramatic situation is interesting of itself with surprising twists and turns. It is truly a laugh out loud work of art. The remake is similar in plot but different enough to hold interest; it is worth viewing.

The 1979 version is a classic that belongs in every true collector’s library. Funniest movie “Ever” and there wasn’t one magic word. It’ll keep the viewer guessing right up until the end. Amazing isn’t it. The newer version is okay, but nowhere close to the original.

The In-Laws, staring Peter Faulk and Alan Arka, is one of my all time favorite movies, and since it came out in 1979, I have been unable to purchase it new. I now have both the original and the remake from 2004 at a very reasonable price.

I give high marks to the sender in getting this to me quickly. However, I must condemn the evil postal worker who delivered the package to the wrong box! I have always enjoyed the 1979 movie, could really care less for the remake, I just bought the double package because it was the cheapest. :)
