This is the first electronic Nikon and I purchased one of the first in the UK in the early 1970's. It went all over the world with me and finally expired after 25 years hard use. I purchased a second hand model to replace it and it is perfect. A combination of solidity, simplicity and Nikon compatibility. The only weakness is the foam mirror dampers which turn to powder after 20 years of use, and the lack of spare parts for the winder. If you have normal sized hands and like to know your camera is still attached to the strap (travelling in odd places) it is a big advantage over the twee modern plastic cases. No disadvantage with film, it makes you think before shooting and I have never lost a film unlike my digital equivalent.
A far to heavy and clumsy to comfortable to use design, the FE was a far better Ballance in size, clarity of viewfinder and of course the old f5.6 indexing process is not required.
