When upgrading a hard drive, there are a few elements to consider, such as the form factor, RPM, storage capacity, and transfer speeds. The HP AP860A is a 600GB large form factor (LFF) SATA hard drive that works with the P2000 MSA array system. Many computer users prefer LFF hard drives due to their capacity to hold more information. With many pictures, videos, and e-books, the hard drive space quickly fills up. Thanks to the LFF hard drive on this AP860A SATA model, it holds up to 600GB worth of information, making it easier to keep everything on a single hard drive. A spindle speed of 15,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and a 6gb/s rate make this drive ideal for computers that operate with a fast operating system. The RPM number indicates how quickly the hard drive spins. Speeds lower than 15,000 RPM do not offer the same level of performance, such as when transferring files and saving documents. A serial attached SCSI (SAS) interface enables this AP860A drive to transfer files at speeds of 600 Mbps. Hard drives that lack the SAS interface have slower transfer speeds, meaning that it takes longer to complete simple tasks. Make sure to look for an SAS interface if speed is a priority. This AP860A SATA drive contains a dual SAS port, and this dual SAS port decreases the risk of single point failure. Thanks to this SAS dual port, this hard drive is a smart choice for a critical server environment that requires the safeguarding of information. Lost information is disastrous, making it essential to mitigate the risk that it occurs. A feature known as hot-swap replaces the system’s existing drive with minimal downtime to decrease the effects of a drive failure.
