These two docu-dramas illustrate the very different conditions that existed within the Atlantic and Pacific campaigns. It is necessary to remember while watching these that they only touch on activities within these two theaters of war. Band of Brother follows Easy Company of the 506th Airborne and lives up to the title of the series where as The Pacific focuses on three noteworthy individuals. You will get a sense of combat life and how different it was for the solders of the two very different campaigns.

I bought this product because I didn't have The Pacific box set and I really wanted to upgrade from the Band of Brother DVD tin boxset I had from 2002/2003. Several friends had tried to dissuade me from getting the BluRays since they said the DVD's upscaled well and they didn't see a need for BluRay. The transfer to BluRay, in my opinion, was pretty good. Performing a side-by-side comparison of the Normandy invasion in the 2nd episode of Band of Brothers, it was clear the BluRay version was superior. I have not yet watched The Pacific, but I am sure that will also be an excellent rendition of that show. You can see grainy-ness in the episodes, but that is a small price compared to the distorted darks/blacks of the DVD being upscaled onto a 1080P screen - it may even be intentional. For anyone who has purchased the original DVD tin of Band of Brothers, you will not be disappointed with this purchase. The discs are packaged in a folder which is placed inside a cardboard/magnetic container (not tin, sorry!). The folder is well made and I think it's actually nicer than the fold away style of the DVD tin.Read full review

I am a WWII history nut and this is the best of both campaigns during the war. Personally I like BofB better, but the Pacific has one of the most memorable scenes I have ever seen. I bought them together because I wanted both - - there have been other movies about WWII (Saving Private Ryan) which are also good, but to get the war in one set is great.
