Western Digital RE4 1TB 3.5-inch internal drives combine fast and efficient data processing with a massive storage capacity. This makes them ideal for video surveillance recording, servers, and any other data write-intensive applications. It has a buffer cache of 64MB at a rotational spindle speed of 7200RPM. With a SATA 3Gbps connectivity, it has an internal data transfer rate of 3Gbps from buffer to host. It has 138Mbps host transfer rate to and from the drive at an average data ready time of 18 seconds. Among its many features include IntelliSeek, which reduces noise, vibration, and power consumption. The drive also includes StableTrac, NoTouch ramp load technology, dual-processor capabilities, and a multi-axis shock sensor. This Western Digital RE4 1TB 3.5-inch internal hard disk device has massive capacities of up to 6TB to handle even the most demanding needs. It has been specifically designed to handle up to 550TB per year. This Serial ATA drive was designed to handle high-intensity applications and can deliver reliability as well as performance to any data center or enterprise environment. The 3.5-inch form factor is a standard size for storage hardware for desktop computers and other storage systems. The Western Digital RE4 1TB 3.5-inch SATA internal hard disk device has also been created with durability and reliability in mind. It has up to 1.4 million hours median time before failure and is capable of handling constant and very demanding environments. This WD1003FBYX model has a Power Dissipation of 5.90 Watts in idle mode. It has a Power Dissipation of 8.60 Watts in read/write mode. Its operating temperature ranges from 41 degrees Fahrenheit to 131 degrees Fahrenheit. The HDD features an average Acoustics Idle Mode of 28 dBA and an average Acoustics Seek Mode of 33 dBA. This quality WD1003FBYX hard drive has Enhanced RAFF technology. This feature also includes advanced electronics that monitor and correct linear and rotational vibration in real time. This means that you will get better performance in high vibration environments. This hard drive has a head positioning system with two actuators that improves positional accuracy over its data tracks. The main actuator offers coarse displacement that uses conventional electromagnetic actuator principles. The secondary actuator utilizes piezoelectric motion in order to fine tune the head positioning to a better degree of accuracy. These WD1003FBYX drives have a motor shaft that is secured at both ends in order to reduce system-induced vibration. The RAID-Specific, Time-Limited Error Recovery feature prevents drive fallout caused by extended hard drive error-recovery processes. With the NoTouch feature, the recording head never needs to touch the disk media. This ensures significantly less wear to the recording head and media and ensures better drive protection in transit. This drive has passed an extended burn-in testing with thermal cycling in order to ensure reliable operation. Compatible with a MAC or PC, the form factor is 3.5 inches with a 300 Mbps transfer rate. Best Sata II hard drive available besides the Western Digital Blacks. But research TLER and how it may effect windows programs. Pros: Good for movies, music, internet, older games should not have a problem with the TLER (non 64bit OS games should play great). Cons: TLER on this hard drive is good for a server system, but when using this hard drive as a primary for Windows OS it may crash heavy programs and recover to desktop within 5 seconds, Tomb Raider 2013 crashed 3 times during a full playthrough, some heavy video or graphical programs will be effected by the TLER too. This hard drive is not recommended for HD Gaming or video editing enthusiasts (you may still get these applications to work but not with perfect performance). This hard drive is great for a primary SATA II system ... Best Sata II hard drive available besides the Western Digital Blacks. But research TLER and how it may effect windows programs. Good storage drives not recommended for when you need high speed reads.
Not sure how to review a hard drive I just received in regards to how reliable it will be but we will give it a shot. Had an older mechanical drive showing SMART errors meaning the drive was dying. Ordered this as a replacement for two drives and went with WD black because they are generally not super fast drives but very durable and reliable. As most hard drives last about three years or more it will be some time before I can speak of the longevity of the unit. It makes little chatter noises when in use which are barely audible but can definitely hear in a very quiet room. Seems as speedy as the old Seagate drives were but as expected nowhere near as fast as my SSD drives.Not sure how to review a hard drive I just received in regards to how reliable it will be but we will give it a shot. Best SATA-2 HDD on the Market (if you get a good one)
With a massive 64MB cache, the WD RE4 is a fantastic performer. I have three of these, one which has seen action in 6 different PC's. Still going strong today, there's a reason why these shipped with a 5 year warranty. In reality, these WD RE4's are upscale (or upgraded) Caviar Blacks, has 2x the cache, and runs quieter also. This is because the RE4 isn't a consumer oriented HDD, there's businesses with multiple of these drives installed, so has to be quiet & fast. Check the specs closely so that you don't get a WD RE4-GP, a 'power saving' drive that's not the same, though a simple trick booting into the freely available Ultimate Boot CD to disable parking (under HDD's, go to WDIDLE & when loaded, type wdidle3 /d) can make these two models the same, as well as disable parking of any other ... Disabling parking can in reality, double a drive's lifespan, regardless of number of hours used. That's the trick used by many, and in some cases, one can get a HDD with over 50,000 hours of use, and less than 200 start/stop cycles. Consumer can benefit from the same trick, though will have more start/stop cycles by default when computer is shutdown or rebooted. The WD RE4 is a true workhorse of a HDD, it's as simple as that. Even post retirement, makes excellent backup drives using a docking station or enclosure constructed of metal, the heavier, the better & avoid plastic models, though it's OK for the end caps to be. A fan is a plus, though if not ran 24/7, not a necessity. Check the seller's feedback before purchase, chances are that the best sellers will give a great deal on these drives, some of which are still covered by WD's warranty. As long as the drive is good, everyone's a winner!;-) Cat

Another great product at a reasonable price!
Another component I purchased to repair our old Hp p2-1343w deskto PC and so far I has been functioning better than I expected for the low cost. Easily was able to install Windows 8 on it, and the size is just fantastic for all that I do with it. If you need or want to upgrade your system with a 1 TB HDD, and have a tight budget, than I would recommend this device for you.
