This is a simply a fun movie. The basic story is about an independent bachelor space pilot (Peter Strauss) who takes a mission to rescue some women who crash landed on a hostile planet (because of a healthy financial reward, of course). The acting, especially that of Molly Ringwald, certainly wasn't in the league of Sean Connery, but it didn't take away any from the entertainment value of the movie. The planet and its mutated residents are WIERD, which always makes for a good sci-fi flick. Michael Ironside (who you might remember from Staship Troopers and Total Recall) is the bad guy here, who was sent from earth to give medical care for the planets residents, but decided to take over the planet instead (at least he thinks big). If you like movies that are both entertaining and VERY strange, this is a safe choice.Read full review
This was a movie I use to see when I was kid and felt that this movie was a head of it's time. I saw this movie for the first time since 1983 and I felt like a kid again, totally recommend for any scifi fan.

This movie is sort of a Mad Max/Road Warrior-type thing. Maybe that's why they made it. I think this was a Canadian film...or at least filmed up there. I'm going to do what reviewers do all the time - be completely biased. I saw Spacehunter at a drive-in theater an 1983 and loved it. It's a campy, sci-fi B-movie - the kind of film you see and love, see or hate, see or forget. I thought it was totally cool, and still adore Molly Ringwald's punked-out Nikki the Twister character. Can I say that the film at least LOOKS interesting, a pre-CGI film? That may be worth something. I bought the DVD, absolutely - I regret I can't see this film in its original 3-D.
I'm a total sci fi movie geek. When I watched this as a kid, I loved the vehicles that were in it, and couldn't get enough of the odd post-apocalypic world that the movie takes place in. The characters were all quite stereotypical, but nevertheless it made for an enjoyable film. Its not going to win any awards, but it definately finds a solid place in my heart.
