This book was such a compelling story. Couldn't believe a love story could be set in such a horrendous place.

Wish I could revue this and the Ishiguro book I ordered at the same time. I'd heard so much hype about this book and I've read many similar books and films on this topic I was keen to read it. However I found myself getting bored. This was because I found it unrealistic in many aspects. And it actually goes someway in making Auschwitz/Birkenau sound almost bearable. It definitely doesn't portray the atrocities adequately. I've visited both camps and if I hadn't I would have a different impression. I think the author has failed to deliver anything believable and just a bit of a love story. More importantly I was distancing myself from the main character as I think he was probably a collaborator. I felt the story was almost rushed to be finished as it lost any impact of when the camp was liberated. I found Lale too frivolous, to take seriously. Very disappointed. Read full review

Heather Morris has captured Lale's Life experience very well. I have visited Auschwitz and was able to imagine the wooden rakes for beds et. I also liked the fact that Heather included photos and evidence at the back of the book. It was also interesting that Heather included Cilka's as you are left wondering what happened to her.

I found this compelling reading.Ive wondered for a long time what was done to the Jews.I find it all beyond human comprehension that one man wanted all of them eradicated and then to get all his henchmen to do his bidding.Reading this novel shows just what lengths they would go to.What I find the hardest is that doctors took part in these murders.

though it could be a bit depressing but it was a love story and a overcoming a terrible time story. I cried mostly out of happiness and from his loss. the extract at the back is lovely too.

I'm not a big reader but I have been to Auschwitz so when I saw this book I thought it would be alright for the sunbed. It was so good I had to read it at every chance I got. It's a great read and a true reflection of a true love tested by the extreme. One of the best books I have read and would appeal everyone. It makes you think so much about what we take for granted everyday..

What a compelling story of how it was in Auschwitz, so sad but a lesson for future generation not to let this ever happen again. No matter what your religion or beliefs are you must not use force to eradicate others. Let us all learn to live side by side and respect each other.
