  • MXL 990 Amazing Value Studio Condenser Microphone

This is a superbly cheap but high quality microphone. If you are considering SE or Rode then get this and double the number of mics you order. When you first connect it, it will sound thin and toppy but leave it on for an hour or so to let the capacitors saturate and it will sound warmer and warmer. Its worth mentioning that there are a ton of upgrades for these mics so Google that if you know how to use a soldering iron. The delivery from Australia to Britain took around 3 weeks and the mic itself comes packed in foam in it's own case with shock mount and standard mic mount for telescopic / angle poise type mic stands used in radio broadcast. BTW, I plugged this mic in, put Sennheiser headphones on, turned the input gain up full and wondered what that noise was - it was traffic 1/4 ...

  • These mic's are unbelievable - for that "real" sound!!!!

I've used these mic's before - a slightly less expensive model, so I knew they were good! I guess the best comment I can make is that people come up at a performance, and ask where we got it, and "are they expensive" - which they're not!!!! I have used them mainly for live performance, more than in recording, to get that old-fashioned "real" acoustic sound for vocals and acoustic guitar. While I have a top of the range Martin guitar, with up-to-date pick up system, this mic gives a much more realistic acoustic guitar sound, with none of the Metallic element heard when plugging in an acoustic. Sorry to have to admit that the sound everyone comments on is more the mic, than the talent. Mixing a number of voices is easy in both recording and live performance, because you don't have to be so ...
