OK, maybe I'm being a little harsh here because there is an audience for this book, it's just not me. I'll explain. I have played for years but am just one of those guys who is never going to be very good, so I thought I'd like to get more into the tech side of things. I thought this book would be a great start. WRONG. This book tells you how to string a guitar, how a truss rod works, the proper string height, and how intonation works. THAT'S IT. It basically tells you how to put strings on a guitar properly for the first time. And that's if you bought some used yard sale guitar. If you buy from a shop all this is done for you. (But you SHOULD know how to do it.) At the end of the book is a tacked-on very basic section on how to solder and then a complete section covering the Floyd Rose ...

  • It's worth having.

It's a common book written by someone who is the "guitar tech for the stars". There are a bunch of other books to purchase with the same details, it only depends on who you want telling you the information: this divine, arcane knowledge. At least the book is a good one. Many photos with large fonts. It has pages to write your own information for setting up instruments you own or frequently work on (like a Fender, Gibson, Music Man, Rickenbacker, etc.). It's information can also be applied for basses. The correct way to do set ups it to have the proper tools. Get them, or you'll be setting up using feel, something people don't like to do or make regrettable mistakes while doing it. Here are a few things. Never turn the truss rod more than 1/2 a turn per day. Let it settle. Use the correct ...

  • The information while accurate is fairly sparse, giving little real depth.

I had hoped for more depth, and too much time is spent on tremelo type setups, as many players still don't use them. Could definitely use better step by step photos - more detail, with closer up pics
