I have collected and read every book from Marion Zimmer Bradley, thru the entite Avalon series since it all relates to the Old Ways and the coming of the new religion; christianity and how it impacted everyones lives. In actually, her first book, Mists of Avalon, should be read last, it is like each book was put out to take us further back..even before "Mists", her work "Firebrand" shows the path she was starting down, before that, is a hard to find book, originally sold as two books, Shadow of Light, Shadow of Darkness I think it was...now sold occasionally as one book and it relates to Atlantis and will have you spellbound. Just have to haunt ebay and watch for them. I do not care for modern fiction, so never got into the other books she wrote, the darkover series, etc, though I did get ... As a teacher of the Old Path, I have any students who wish to work with me, read all of the Marion Bradley series I call "The Avalon series" and I really think Firebrand needs to be included. Another author to look for, is Morgan Llewelyn, NOT to be confused with the company by that name..She wrote books like; Horse Goddess, Lion of Ireland, Finn McCool, The Druids, The Bard...all excellent reading if you truly wish to learn the ways of those of celtic ancestory.

Ancestors of Avalon is a MUST READ for all Arthur Fans
All fans of King Arthur and his tails will love Ancestors of Avalon. With a finely written story line and vivid, realistic characters, this book is sure to please. I will not deny that this book has a slightly feminist point of view -as the rest of the Avalon series does- I believe that adds on to its allure, especially toward women. I recommend this book to all women -young and old. The best audience would probably be women between the ages of 15 and 40. It's mature, but well written and intricately detailed. Ancestors of Avalon is truly a masterpiece.All fans of King Arthur and his tails will love Ancestors of Avalon. This book is a prequel to all things Avalon.
I have ordered so very many books that I have yet to give this title the attention that it deserves. It is another brilliant tale by Diana Paxson & Marion Zimmer Bradley. This was actually a solo book by Diana as MZB has passed on to the Summerlands. From what I have skimmed it is truly in keeping with the wonderful storytelling of the other Avalon books and will be a delightfully entertaining while profoundly informative read. Never before have the tales of Avalon been told with such rawness and such strength in the characters. I have read all the others books and cannot wait to be able to curl up this fall with this newest chapter (prequel) in the saga of the women of Avalon!I have ordered so very many books that I have yet to give this title the attention that it deserves. Hardback in very good shape.
Ms. Bradley has written beautiful detailed books of the Avalon and Arthurian legends. After her death, Diana Paxson has seamlessly continued the fascinating stories with not a miss in Ms. Bradley's legacy.
