The Seagate Constelllation.2 reduces these times to only 4.16 milliseconds, thereby greatly reducing latency and increasing performance. Furthermore, the average seek time from one address to another is only 8.5 milliseconds, allowing you to access your data quickly no matter where it is located on a disk. A shock tolerance of 70G when operating, and 400G when switched off, ensures that these accessories can survive your average slip, drop, or fall. These hard drives use SMART monitoring to anticipate possible disk corruption and diagnose reliability issues before they lead to a problem. If such an issue is detected, the drive will alert you that a disk failure may be imminent, allowing you or your company to back up critical data before it is lost. In enterprise situations, this accessory can save you from having to invest in data recovery and restoration.By optimizing their hardware, Seagate has ensured that the Constellation.2 can perform under varied conditions. These accessories make use of Native Command Queuing (NCQ) to optimize which read and write commands are executed first. Perpendicular Magnetic Recording technology allows bits of information to be stored closer together.     Great deal, but know the limitations!

    This a great deal for a 500MB NEW 2.5 inch drive. Buyers DO need to be aware that it is designed for server usage, and that it won't work (it won't even FIT - it's too thick) in your laptop. And it requires both 5 and 12 volts to operate. So it WON'T work off of a USB interface that supplies only 5V. But if you can use it in a desktop system, it's fast (>100MB/s) and reliable. Best used in installations where a 3 1/2 drive will work. Great value for the money!
