These are some of the best color pencils on the market...better than Caran D'Ache, Derwent...and they totally trump those Walmart, Target, Staples brand colored pencils (which are more chalky and have less pigment). The Prismacolor Premier as good as Faber-Castell's Polychromos which are mad expensive (like $3-$4 per pencil, so a 72 color set of those will cost well over $200). They are not the most expensive, but can be on the expensive side if all you want is basic color pencils, but if you want to do layers, blending, and more advanced color drawings, than these are the best "bang for the buck". Try to get them at a price between $30-$40...regular (retail store) price is usually around $70. If you are lucky, have the patience and the will to wait a long time, you might be able to score a great deal and get the 72 pencil set for as low as $25, but that is a pretty rare price range. Anyways, you can't go wrong with these even at the usual price of $40-$45 on eBay or Amazon. Oh, last word...don't get fooled into getting knockoffs that use the term "Prismacolor Premier" in their listing title. Those are cheap store brand style pencils that usually list for $20-$25 range but really are only $10 sets that can be picked up anywhere and are really only for toddlers and kids. Get the real Prismacolor Premier pencil set (I found the 72 count to be the most economical as the 150 count is much more expensive and my 12 year old daughter really doesn't need, at this stage in her artist development...in fact she didn't want the 150 count and rather preferred the 72 count and the color range that this set comes with). I hope this helps anyone considering these pencils.Read full review

Used prismacolor colored pencils before. I tossed them recently because they were dry and the tips kept snapping. Also had to sharpen some pencils over and over cause the would was so brittle all sharpening did was eat the pencil. Anyway, I tried a new brand amd it was great! Then I purchased a large array of color from Prismacolor. Even brand new the wood of the pencils is so dry they are again just being chewed up. Now again I have 100 plus Prismacolor pencils that will eventually irritate the otherwise relaxing hobby of coloring. Then I will toss them again.

These pencils are so creamy, they go on smoothly and fill well on all types of paper. They also blend well, both when using multiple colors to reach a light to dark gradient, and when using a single color, first with very light pressure, and the with increasing pressure to get a beautiful blended effect. I have several different brands of pencils, but these have quickly become my favorite!!

I have used Prismacolor pencils for several years, but lately I have become disappointed in their reliability. The lead in many of the pencils, is broken throughout the pencils. I just bought a 72 count set and one of the pencils is already only 2 inches long. Sharpening it many times to get intact lead was a waste of time and pencil. It has happened with many different colors. It never used to. Quality is not the same anymore.

Out of all brands that I have tried (no names, but at least eight), there is simply no comparison. The colors themselves are rich and vibrant. The leads are smooth and soft, yet prove to be break resistant. The color selection is fantastic. I have never regretted any size I have ordered. In summary,I will not use any other brand here forward.

This is my first set of color pencils since anatomy class 20+ years ago. I used them for the first time today and I have to say, they are amazing! They color so smooth and the colors are beautiful. I was able to blend them easily, and for a novice that exciting ;) The other women saw the pencil tin and one of them comment how jealous she was I got to use such high quality pencils. I just smiled. I feel like the little bit of extra money I paid for this set of pencils is going to more than pay for itself in the long run. I enjoyed using them today. I am already looking forward to more projects that require coloring.

I recently bought a set of 72 Prismacolor Premier pencils and I have liked everything about them so far...great pigments, not too waxy (something I don't like about another major pencil brand) and a good colour range. Highly recommended.

I have other color pencil sets and particularly feel the quality of Prismacolor Premier colored pencils is far superior. One outstanding quality of these pencils is the flow of the colors. That's the difference which leads to a superior end product.

The 72 pc. box gives a wide choice of vibrant colors, neatly arranged in a tin three tray signature box. I do suggest Prismacolor should include a list of contents to help the purchaser with future color choices because once you have the 72 you will want to add more colors to your collection. I'm enjoying these and my drawing skills have improved, using the best tools does encourage you to do your best. These are great!
