... and found some although the movie was uneven in several areas. My wife enjoys Albert Brooks' movies, and this one was 'uneven' even for her! This is a decent 'mockumentary' about the USA and the Muslim world, but we were expecting so much more from Brooks. His Indian assistant is played very well by a qualified actress, but others in the cast are very stiff in their roles and do not help the 'mockumentary'.... It was good this was a short movie (98 minutes) as it just wouldn't hold a mainstream audience's attention for much longer than that. Nice try, but lacking in carry-thru.
Okay, I thought this was a slightly different thing. I thought it was a documentary. That would have been a much cooler idea. This is more a, acting like a documentary thing. If you don't already like and know Al Brooks you're probably not going to be converted with this film. See Defending your Life for that. Al does some of his well know comedy pieces in front of an Indian audience to figure out what works. Sadly nothing works. It's not really about that though. Whatever, just go see Transformers or something. You wouldn't understand.
I purchased this movie without ever hearing any reviews but knowing what to expect from former Albert Brooks movies. Great Albert Brooks comedy. Dry humor with an edge. Not "Defending Your Life" but well done. Production values are very high for this movie and cast is excellently placed for each roll. There are no cheap shots at the Muslim religion but a great comparison of two cultures.
Looking For Comedy In The Muslim World is one of the best crafted comedys ever made. Only Albert Brooks could take on this sensitive subject and only find the highest level of funny without insulting anyone but himself. I have watched this dvd many times and get more out of it with each viewing.
