This book ( or if like me , Audio book ) is rich with custom, tradition, sibling dynamics and a world that is created in the head of the author, and lived in by you the reader and the characters so richly portrayed. Just enough "otherworldly" that for a while your comfortable living there. Characters reveal themselves to be more or less two sides of the same story enriched by the problems and lack of what each has or has not. On top of the sort of serious side , this book is also a great laugh and steeped in its time and language. I recommend the audio book as to hear the rich dialogue and smell the street scenes. I will listen to this book over and over again.
It was loaned to me a few years ago for me to listen to on a long road trip, I fell in love with it. it is quirky and very funny. It is very well done and a gem. Fans of Neil Gaiman will not be disappointed. Lenny Henry, who reads this books, is a fantasic choice, he give life to this tale like no other. I have been a huge fan of his since his days as Gareth Blackstock in the BBC series 'Chef'. A must listen for sure
Niel Gaiman has a talent in writting seldom seen. Like Anansi himself, Niel Gaiman spins an awsome tale that mixes a Shakspearian plot with a british comedy. This story has stuck in my mind like no other book i've read or listend to. I would recomend this to anyone of any age or background.
I just discovered Author Neil Gaiman and truly enjoy his books. This is a great read. I give it two thumbs up.
This story can be fluffed up or dumbed down by all sorts of adjecttives and verbs... but I will not bore you thusly... Its about stories... fathers and sons... journeies... songs... danger... and a lime. Listen to it. The story will change you...
