About this product

Product Information

'Hugely enjoyable. . . A spirited examination of the hypocrisy of the super-rich who claim they are helping the world' - Guardian What explains the spreading backlash against the global elite? In this revelatory investigation, Anand Giridharadas takes us into the inner sanctums of a new gilded age, showing how the elite follow a 'win-win' logic, fighting for equality and justice in any way they can - except ways that threaten their position at the top. But why should our gravest problems be solved by consultancies, technology companies and corporate-sponsored charities instead of public institutions and elected officials? Why should we rely on scraps from the winners? Trenchant and gripping, this is an indispensable guide and call to action for elites and citizens alike.

Book safely packaged and delivered promptly. Item as described. Very impressed by the quick delivery of this book. This is a great book (I am familiar with earlier editions) and a must have for those interested in audio recording, to get this edition for a great price was a complete no brainer. Would recommended this seller. No communication needed, really, with such a quick delivery- but clearly communicated as to dispatch. Thank you, WeBuyBooks.

  • If you are uncomfortable leaving the development of our society to the market

Articulates a fascinating insight into why and how the economic ‘haves’ protect and improve their position, while appearing to act in the interests of the ‘have-nots’. This is not recycled class-based politics, but focusses rather on the super rich and super successful who increasingly are taking on leadership roles (and exerting influence) in areas which should be the preserve of democratic government. The target of Giridhadaras’s thesis is primarily aimed at the USA. Worth watching his YouTube appearances ahead of buying the book.
