Back in the 1960s during that first Silver Dollar and bullion craze, a sideline cottage industry sprang up with the publication of targeted coin guide books, Among those were a couple of softbound booklets dedicated to the United States silver Morgan Dollar of 1878 - 1904 & 1921. One particular edition published around 1965 with a title long since forgotten listed each year of Morgan Dollar with photos and detailed statistics including mintage quality characteristics. The book as recalled what highly informative and was of great assistance in buying and selling of Morgan Dollars. In the decades since, those handy guide books were lost. . . Have been on the look out for some time for a replacement for the old book. The "Guide Book Of U.S Morgan Silver Dollars by David Bowers", appears to be an excellent source of relative information with photos. Highly informative thumbnail descriptions are presented by year and mint. This is easy to read solid information written in a non-technical way. Published in 2005, the pricing data shown is no longer relevant. As I type this in January 2011, the scrap silver melt price for a Morgan or Peace dollar is about $22.50. Aside from the long obsolete coin value information, this book is an excellent quick reference to anyone interest in the famous U.S. Morgan Silver Dollar.Read full review
This book has a ton of information about Morgan dollars. Not just general information, but by year and mint mark! It also has pricing information. If the latest edition is over a year old it (pricing) will not be of much value. Check the year of the revision, if it isn't current just buy the cheapest book out there. This is a must have for the Morgan dollar collector. It even has estimates of the number of Morgan dollars out there by year, mint and grade! You may have to get the latest pricing information elsewhere.

I bought this book because I wanted to have a reference for values and data on a number of morgan dollars I plan to sell on ebay. It contains data about how well struck each date was, how many were minted and roughly how many were melted down for their silver value. It also shows the value of each coin. Although it is a few years old, the information in it is still valid regarding values of one coin vs another.
This book has terrific information pertaining to the collector interested in Morgan Dollars as to their history, scarcity, and as a potential investment.
