Synopsis
Is love a possibility within our reach "We probably have wondered in our many lonesome moments if there is one corner in this competitive, demanding world where it is safe to be relaxed, to expose ourselves to someone else, and to give unconditionally. It might be very small and hidden. But if this corner exists, it calls for a search through the complexities of our human relationships in order to find it." - from Intimacy Writing from his vast experience as a pastoral counselor, Henri Nouwen addresses the basic question, "How can I find a creative and fulfilling intimacy in my relationship with God an my fellow human beings" He conducts a rich and insightful exploration into the balance between intimacy and distance, the problems in trying to develop lasting and productive relationships on all levels, and the connections between intimacy and sexuality, pray, faith, and the mental well-being of the minister. Intimacy is an essential resource for anyone struggling to grasp the profound implications of this most basic human needs., "On the long road it's good to have Nouwen and his divining rod. Deftly he bends toward the drop of spiritual wisdom caked in the most ordinary things." --Helen Prejean, C.S.J., author of Dead Man Walking In his classic work Intimacy, Henry J.M. Nouwen, one of the most beloved spiritual writers of the 20th century, explores the pathway to a more creative and fulfilling intimacy in our relationship with God. A wise and optimistic guide to the complexities and rewards of the fully developed inner life, Intimacy stands alongside The Wounded Healer, With Open Hands, Making All Things New, and Nouwen's other notable works, as well as the writings of C.S. Lewis, Thomas Merton, and other influential Christian scholars and thinkers., "On the long road it's good to have Nouwen and his divining rod. Item as described, good price, well packaged, arrived slightly later than hoped (not in time for Christmas ) but the order was placed in a very busy shipping period. No issue with the seller’s speed of response and sending the item. Great seller!

Great seller with great communication! Item arrived complete, as described and for a good price. There was a bit of an issue with tracking the order at one point (not the seller's fault), but seller was proactive in reaching out to the carrier and myself to get everything back on track. Arrived when expected.

Originally written in '68 or so, it is easy to see why this book is still in print. It is written with professional ministry in mind and is also an encouraging look into its preparation. Originally intended for Catholic seminarians, this book is an asset to all clergy in general. Nouwen's honesty is refreshing and insightful. He is easy to read, yet challenging on a personal level. Though somewhat psychological in nature, he makes Christianity very relational. Though a resource intended for the priesthood, Intimacy is a good read for all pastors. Whether you are studying for the ministry or need a quick refresher, this book might be quite useful. There is some interesting theology of leadership, though its references to celibacy might not matter to Protestants.
