    excellent detail for a good price

    Before i purchased this kit, I already had a good impression with the detail i was able to find. However when i actually received the kit just after a few days I was overwhelmed by the amount of detail I could find. First of all the instruction manual is something out of the ordinary. Very detailed with many photos to get you going. The material is well cut and presented and you have a warranty that if something is broken or missing they will send to you at no charge. Never I have found such a service behind such a product. The only thing which I would like to recommend for improvement is to include the wooden blocks necessary to strengthen the main structure. This has to be obtained foreign and exterior from the kit itself. Finding such pieces within the kit would make it complete. Other ...

    Syren Song

    The Model Shipways US Brig Syren is a very nice model. Good materials with spares for some of the most fragile parts. When I started the USS Confederacy I thought the basswood (limewood) was a cheap material but after working with it for a while I completely changed my mind. It is a first rate material for ship modeling. Easily worked, sands down very smooth and is easily stained or painted if desired. The Syren is made from the same material. The supplied timber is dimentionally consistent with straight grain. There are a lot of sizes so you need a set of calipers to measure it. The instructions recommend using some keel stiffeners which are not supplied so if you decide to use them you need to get some extra material (I used some 25x25mm wood from the hardware store).
